Why we should celebrate and memorialize Paramedics and first responders
Paramedics, the unsung heroes of healthcare, are often the first responders to medical emergencies and deserve our recognition and support. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they need our help and recognition even more than ever. Medics risk their lives under dangerous conditions and they only have a limited time with patients. The Healthcare Workers Heroes Memorial is an initiative that works to memorialize those frontline workers that we have lost since the COVID-19 pandemic started. It is also noted that the majority of the deaths are COVID-19 related but not all and that the HcwHeroes Memorial also recognizes those who did not pass due to the pandemic. It also strives towards getting help and recognition for those whom are still on the front lines.
The demand on paramedics is at an all-time high during the COVID-19 pandemic and they are sometimes left out when we remember the medical workers who ar e on the frontline. These heroes will drop whatever they are doing and suit up to come and help you with any emergency you might have, even under harsh conditions. Usually when an emergency call is made, there will often be an entire team of medics rushing to your aid.
The response of paramedics saves lives by responding to emergencies and where they can, provide initial care which can decrease the likelihood of further deterioration. It also provides the medical staff at the hospital with a more manageable situation so that they can continue the work already done with a patient.
Founder of the Healthcare Workers Heroes Memorial, Dr Maggie Mojapelo (CEO of Mediwell), wants us to remember the frontline who’ve fallen and continue to support those whom are still out there risking their workers lives, like the Paramedics. The Healthcare Workers Heroes Memorial also supports the healthcare workers’ families where possible and donations go a long way with this process.
